Dr Joseph Christopher is an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Medical Genetics and Genomics, and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. He specialises in the use of genomic technologies to better understand germline predisposition to cancer, and its impact on somatic mutation and tumourigenesis.
As a clinician scientist, I split my time between the care of patients at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and research at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
My research and specialty clinical interest is in hereditary cancer risk and its management. I use cutting edge genomic technologies to investigate the role of germline cancer predisposition in the somatic mutational landscape of normal and malignant tissues to better understand early cancer. Through this understanding we aim to improve care for individuals with a high familial risk of cancer.
