I am interested in epithelial cell competition and how environmental factors shape the mutational landscape of normal epithelia, generating the field where early tumours arise.
In 2015, I joined Phil Jones team as a postdoctoral fellow to study the early events in epithelial carcinogenesis, particularly focusing in the oesophagus. I am developing new 3D primary adult epithelial cultures that are amenable for confocal live imaging, genetic manipulation and cell competition studies. Combining these in vitro techniques with in vivo lineage tracing assays and DNA sequencing, I seek to understand the factors that affect mutant cell colonization of adult oesophagus and the early events of tumour formation.
