Nisha’s research journey has been influenced by an insatiable curiosity to untangle the enigmas surrounding Vibrio cholerae and its impact, particularly in South Asia. Combining microbiology, genomics and bioinformatics approaches, she has embarked on a study to explore the genomic landscape of V. cholerae strains circulating in Northern India—a region characterized by a high burden of cholera cases and recurrent outbreaks. Alongside this focus, she has also explored the genetic traits of other notable organisms such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Aeromonas spp.
