Elias is a PhD student at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the University of Cambridge. He is using single-cell and single-nuclei transcriptomics to study the host-pathogen interactions at the placental-maternal interface in humans.
I am a PhD student in the Vento-Tormo group. I am passionate of the study of the immune system, its regulation, and behaviour during disease by applying high-throughput technologies and single-cell analysis. Currently, I am utilising novel in vitro/ex vivo human placental culture systems (e.g. organoids) to study the placental immune response against different pathogens.
I obtained a BSc in Genomic Sciences with honours, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Before starting my PhD, I worked for a year with Dr Gosia Trynka at the Sanger Institute. During that time I analysed scRNA-seq data to study the immune system of patients with primary immunodeficiencies.
